Criminogenic Needs
Sometimes recycling is not a great idea!
Criminogenics is the study of specific needs that must be addressed in order to habilitate criminal offenders and achieve lower recidivism rates. Criminogenic studies show that offenders cycle through the current criminal justice/probation system at the rate of 70% - 90%!
The following diagram illustrates the importance of an effective cognitive restructuring program that can successfully intervene in offenders' self-defeating thoughts and behaviors.

* Although the criminal justice system doesn't address core criminogenic needs, it still remains the most important deterrent against crime.
** This group does address core criminogenic needs. But recidivism rates remain high.
ACCI curriculum addresses the following high-risk factors (criminogenic needs) in the development of its cognitive life skills curriculum:
ANTISOCIAL VALUES AND BEHAVIORS
PRO CRIMINAL ASSOCIATIONS
FREE-FLOATING HOSTILITY
LOW VERBAL INTELLIGENCE
LACK OF SELF-CONTROL
WEAK PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS

No matter what is said, the truth is in the results. If your program can not substantially reduce recidivism rates by 20% -30%, then the truth is, it is not effective regardless of what the brochure says.
